Tips for Winter Skin Care
Whether you are out in the winter weather because of necessity or recreation, there are some things you can do to protect your skin and body, and that's always a good thing!
Apply sunscreen regularly because you're just as likely to sunburn in the winter as you are in summer.
Apply a sunscreen, moisturizer or make-up with a minimum SPF of 15. Be sure to protect your lips by wearing lipstick or lip balm with sun protection. And make a concerted effort to not lick your lips.
Moisturize. Add moisture to inside air by turning on a humidifier. If you don't have one, place a pan of water near radiator or heat source.
Add moisture to your body by using emollient-based soaps, lotions and creams. It is even more effective if you moisturize right after taking a shower or washing your face.
Winter skin care regimes for makeup include a cream foundation instead of liquid. Cream based makeup provides an extra layer of protection for your skin.
Take shorter, warmer showers and baths a part of your winter skin care routine. Hot water strips away natural oils as does staying submerged in water. Adding moisturizers to bath water helps, but take care when exiting as tub will be slippery.
Reduce the number of times you apply toner after cleansing and use toners with no or low alcohol levels. Gently exfoliate using a washcloth or scrub to remove dead skin cells and stimulate skin.
Wear a hat when you go outside. Find a comfortable hat that does not fit overly tight, and wear it faithfully when out in the winter weather. This will help to protect your scalp from getting overly dry.
