Tips for Summer Skin Care to keep your skin healthy and glowing!
The weather finally starts to warm up, we emerge from our winter hiding places and can't wait to put on the shorts, t-shirts and get some sun.
Some folks, like me, live in a climate where it is warm year-round, so summer skin care tips apply just about 365 days a year (and yes, I love every minute of it!)Always protect your skin from the effects of ultraviolet radiation by applying sunscreen to every exposed area of your body. And, it's a really good idea to buy new sunscreen each season; pitch the old stuff.
Apply your
sun protection cream
liberally - for your body, use as much as would fill a shot glass. For your face, a teaspoon. Re-apply regularly, particularly if you enter the water.
Other sage advice that you already know but it never hurts to repeat: wear sun protective clothing, seek shade whenever possible, and stay out of the sun when it's strongest, between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm.
Summer skin care for your face is even more important. Be aware of the SPF factor in your moisturizer and/or makeup, and ensure that you're giving your face added protection and wear a hat!
Sunless tanners have come a long way from the early days of production, so you always have an option of creating that nice, sun kissed glow without hitting the beach or pool.
If you enjoy a good swim or soak in the pool, it's always a good idea to rinse off when you are finished to get the chlorine off of your skin.
Same goes for salt water swims, if you live near the gulf or bay areas.
Hydrate your body, too, with a light summer lotion. Those heavy winter lotions can be put away for another season. And, you'll smell good, too!
Give your feet some TLC to get rid of the dry skin that accumulated during the winter months. I like to use a pumice stone to slough off the dead skin, then follow up with a moisturizer made especially for the feet.
A couple of final thoughts for summer skin care:
A facial mask applied once a week will deep-clean pores and help skin retain its natural pH balance.
Use a mister to keep skin cool and moist.
